Linking to this site...
(27th February 2000)
If you run a website and want to add a link to this one, go right ahead. You
don't need to ask me first, you don't even need to bother telling me about it...
But please note this one simple request:
All links to this site MUST be made to the following URL
http://www.tornado.pair.com/melaniec/melaniec.html
If you just want a standard text-only link, then the following HTML fragment will
do the job perfectly...
<A HREF="http://www.tornado.pair.com/melaniec/melaniec.html">100% Melanie C</A>
|
And note that the site name is "100% Melanie C".
Not "100% Mel C", not "100% Mel Chisholm", and not any other variation on the theme.
Linking to any other page on this site is a no-no, for several reasons...
- It drops visitors directly into the heart of the site, rather than easing them
gently in via the front door. This may turn out to be disorientating, especially
if they've never been to this site before...
- I don't guarantee that any URL other than the one given above will remain
valid. If you want your links to continue working, then make sure they point to
pages that aren't going to move/disappear :-)
- I like to trace the routes people take through this site, so that I can see which
bits are the most popular, and also so that I can detect any change in visitor
behaviour that may suggest it's time to redesign the site layout. But I can only do
this reliably if I know that each visitor is starting off at the same place, and
navigating through the site using the interface I've designed...
- Finally, if you like this site so much that you think your visitors would like
to see it as well, then it's only fair that you let them see it all. Letting them
enter the site properly allows them to do just that.
So please, if you're about to add a link to this site, use the URL above. And if
you've already got a link to this site that doesn't use that URL, then please
change it. Thank you.
