This is Bella Kotlar again, writing from Connecticut. In this e-mail I'm
going to tell you about the Spice World Tour concert I attended. It was
at Montage Mountain, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on Monday, 6th July 1998.
My mum, grandma and I drove about four hours by car from my house to the
venue. Then we had to stay in an extremely long line for about half an
hour to an hour. When we finally got to the front, a school bus took us
to the field, which was a baseball field (I'd rather much have it at a
football field like Wembley.) I looked all around me, and there were
these stadium benches going about a mile high, diagonally. It was loaded
with people, and I couldn't believe what I was seeing!
I thought that we were going to be sitting on one of those benches, but
when we gave our tickets to one of the employees, she led us in the
direction of the stage. I was so excited because she brought us about 13
metres from the stage! We were sitting in regular chairs, a little bit to
the right of the stage. It was so close I couldn't believe it! Of course
I'm sure it would have been much better in the front row seats. I got a
programme and a T-shirt during the hour we were waiting for them to show.
Finally, the music started getting very suspenseful, and there was a huge
blast! Like you said, there was the spaceship routine as well. The door
slid open really slowly, and there they were, standing as still as
unfunctional robots. I was actually seeing the Spice Girls right in front
of my own eyes!!!! They started doing all these funny robotic dance
moves, and the show started.
They first sung "If You Can't Dance", then they went straight into "Who
Do You Think You Are?" After that I think they changed costumes and did
"Do It", and then "Denying", and then a costume change again, which was
when they sang "Too Much." After that they had another costume change and
sang "Stop", which led into Emma's solo "Where Did Our Love Go?" Then they
changed costumes again and did "Move Over." After that was another
costume change, which came before "Lady is a Vamp", "Say You'll be there",
and I'll include "Naked" as well since they didn't really change their
costumes for that. Melanie C. came onto the stage first in the
introduction of "2 Become 1", which led into "Walk of Life." Then there
was another costume change, and "Sisters are Doing it for Themselves",
"Wannabe", "Spice Up Your Life", and "Mama." They changed costumes again
after that, and sang "Viva Forever", "Never Give Up On the Good Times",
and finally "We Are Family."
My reaction the day after the concert was not saying a word to anyone or
anything. I was so shocked! My throat hurt from yelling so much of
course, and I had this feeling like I just won the lottery! It took me
about a day to recover and remember what went on at the venue the other
night. The costume changes I talked about before came from what I
remembered, so don't count on every single one I mentioned being right. My
favourite costume that Melanie C. wore was the one where she wore what
looked like blue sequined overall pants, and a which blouse under it. It
looked great on her. I think she wore it for "Too Much." The Wembley
Stadium concert on the 20th of September was wonderful, but I have this
feeling like the one at Montage Mountain was better because they had many
more costume changes, and it had more lively songs. The two or three they
switched around, I mean. Maybe I'm just saying that because when you're
there live, it's a much more different feeling. I wasn't at the Back In
Britain one.
At the concert, I first noticed Melanie's new Angel tattoo. I liked
right from the beginning. She was the best dancer and singer out of all
of them up there. I know how hard it is to perform in front of a large
audience, although I've never performed in front of an audience that
large. The concert was incredible, and all I could say is that I remember
it every day, and I daydream about it in school a lot, and I'm still
shocked.
