I have read the other long articles at this web site, and it is
interesting to see how people regard Melanie Chisholm. For me she is
like the princess in a big adventure, having a great time and doing
what she likes and is best at, which is singing and dancing.

She seems very natural and she is dealing with the press in a most
outstanding way. But lets face it, she has had a lot of bad press
reports, claiming she is the most plain one, the least glamorous and not
being pretty. And in a way, I understand these accusations, but it is
the regard of this that I think is wrong. for me, all of these factors
are positive, if you put them in the right perspective. It is a matter
of the way you are looking at these factors and judging if they are
positive or negative. For instance, I find it very attractive that
Melanie is less loud and less glamorous than the other ones. I find it
attractive that she wears trackies and trainers. I find her looks
attractive. But these attractions are not the stereotype attractions
that the press often follows. As for instance one should be blonde, big
chested and always on the flirting side with body shaped dresses if you
are too be pretty, quoting the press general rule for beauty. I think
it is because of this that Melanie has not been appreciated in the
media. But when you see normal peoples opinion, one find that Melanie is
very popular. My point is that the media often are quite stereotypic in
the way they write and any change often will be met with criticism.

One can say that the picture I'm drawing of Melanie here, belongs to the
past, and that is sort of true, though I think she still is the girl in
the group that gets the smallest media attention. She has as everyone
knows, changed her image. She has become more elegant, and more a women
one can say. but this is the picture we get through the media. I do not
think she has changed all that much in private. Because if one thinks
hard enough, I think the way the media have focused on Melanie through
the times, does not give a 100% accurate picture. Instead of looking at
different interests, they have concentrated on one interest, as for
example sport and blown it up so it seems like she almost doesnt care
about anything else. One can argue and say that the Spice Girls in a way
have their share of the blame here, when they accepted the labels sporty
ginger ...etc to be put on them, then one has to accept the stereotypic
journalism to a certain extent. But this new side that Melanie shows, a
more feminine side one can say, I believe always have existed, its just
that the media have not focused on it, and she probably has not have the
need to profile herself with this image before either. So when she now
wants a change, I don't think one has to be too worried about her losing
her ground and not dealing with her fame and the way it will affect her.
I think she just shows a side of herself that has been there for quite a
while, but she has not experimented with it before now.

I have read this article about a former boyfriend that said that she was
not at all a tomboy in the way she behaved, and she also used to dance
ballet, which is quite feminine. I thinks this clearifies her quite
obvious feminine sides which has been there all along. I just think she
wants to let her femininity show a little more now than before.

When all this is said, I have to say it is the ass-kicking, fresh, using
not too much make up Melanie that I fancy, and I hope she understands
that she is much more pretty being less hard on the makeup. And I dont
care that she is called ugly spice and stuff. I have always thought that
she is the most pretty, when it comes to expressing oneself and
personality mixed with looks. And what a lovely scouse accent she has:))
