Hi everyone,

Thought I'd share a poem with you all that I wrote not long ago. It's
more a Spice Girl story than Mel C, but don't worry, the moment I
finish my Mel C poem, I'll let you know. Trust me, it's very hard to
put your hero into words (like you would all know), but I am trying!

Cheers.

P.S. I'm finally going to Liverpool at the end of this year so watch
out Liverpool, because one girl from down under is going to go
absolutely mental!!!

ODE TO SPICE GIRLS

Three years have passed since that fateful day in 1996,
When I heard a song called Wannabe that I just loved to bits.
And without a doubt from that day on, my life turned sweet from sour,
As I was introduced to Spice Girls and the notion of Girl Power.

"A fluke..." I heard the critics say "...to debut at number one!"
But that was just a tiny taste of what was yet to come:
Say You'll Be There, 2 Become 1, Who Do You Think You Are,
From the start it was quite obvious they were destined to be stars.

I soon became obsessed as I listened to each song,
And as I watched the interviews I knew I wasn't wrong.
I loved them all but one stood out as far as I could see,
The Sporty one so beautiful, whos name was Melanie C

Back to the charts and things were hot - Mama had hit the scene,
And all the while the girls were convinced it was just a dream.
But a dream it was not as sales would show that things were far from
glum, Their debut album shot up the charts to stop at number one.

Too much too soon? Was it going to end and all come crashing down?
No way, these were the Spice Girls, they were gonna stick around.
For this was just the beginning of the things that they would do:
Break endless records, star in a film and make album number two.

This time we bopped to Spice Up Your Life, Too Much and one called
Stop, And once again the charts revealed the girls were again on top.
Everything was going great and seemed too good to be true, Nothing
had prepared the world for what these girls would do.

Then came a day in '98 that gutted fans world-wide,
Gerri announced her departure, turned her back and said goodbye.
Was this the end of the phenomenon, our hopes and all our dreams?
We held our breaths and prayed like mad that things weren't as they
seemed.

Our prayers went unanswered and hope was lost as 5 turned into 4,
But the fans stood high and supported them through and loved them
even more. Then amidst the confusion, the silver lining - something
truly great, Viva Forever topped the charts, their number ones now
totaled eight.

A sell-out tour around the world and three years in a row,
The number one Christmas song, totally stealing the show.
Babies born to two of four and still they can't go wrong,
The power of Spice is burning bright and marching on so strong.

So as we wait for an Australian tour and album number three,
We hope that through all that's happened the girls will come to see
That regardless of what happens next - if they stay or if they roam,
I know I'll ALWAYS love them and they'll NEVER walk alone!
