Everyone's been giving their opinion of Melanie, so I thought I'd pass
mine along.
Seasons of Change
In 1996 when a five member all female band burst on to the music scene,
and took the world by storm, it was quite easy to see that the world was
in for quite a wake up call. Straight away everyone picked a favorite,
with the most choosing either Geri, or Emma and an occasional vote for
Victoria, and Mel B (as she was known then). But there was one...the last
one mentioned in every story, the one that no one seemed to take notice
of, the one in the corner, whom would in her own time, take the entire
world by surprise.
At the very beginning she seemed content in her Adidas tracksuit and
ponytail and very little make up. She was the one who during a photo
shoot, seemed to hate playing dress up. Slowly, over time she began to take
on changes, small at first...with just a hint more make up and maybe a
tank top instead of a t shirt. With the release of "Who Do You Think You
Are", we saw that perhaps she wasn't so bad looking after all.
By the time the second album had been released, sporty was still sporty,
but a more glam version. Using flashy material, bolder colors, more make
up(partially because she was on stage), and adding that ever popular
extension of color to her ponytail. With the release of Stop we saw that
she was no longer in trakkie's and such, but a pair of black dress
trousers, black leather jacket, and red top. It was here, the world
noticed, that the shy, quiet little tomboy, was growing up.
When Goodbye was released in the fall of 1998, it was obvious that Melanie
had taken on some further changes. The trademark ponytail was long gone,
in favor of a long, slightly shaggy look, which she also wore to the MTV
Euro awards for that year, combined with a pair of black dress trousers, a
silver strapless top, and 2 inch heels. And then it wasnt until the
premiere of Austin Powers that we took notice of her looks again. Gone
were the raven colored locks we'd grown so used to. Now not only was she
blonde, but she was wearing skirts, and the tinyest of tops. And at the
Big Daddy Premiere we noticed that the long multi-layered locks we had
seen in the past had been cut short.
July 4th, 1999 we got one of the biggest shocks yet. Now not only was she
super blonde, but it was cut in a pageboy style. Many were taken aback by
the new change, but most seemed to be in favor of it. But Melanie wasnt
through yet.
Just a couple weeks ago, during an interview we find that she's cut it
even shorter, almost reminicisent of Sarah Maclachlan. Not only that but
it's gone back to her original brownish color, with some blonde chunks
left in to set it off. We also find that the dog collar/choker has
returned along with the much talked about pink boots.
Could it be possible that the shy, quiet , tomboy has grown up??? Gone
are the days when Adidas was her middle name. The same person who was so
often called the "plain" one, has developed into an absolutely georgeous,
extordinary creature. It's quite possible that perhaps, Melanie has
decided it's time to drop the "Sporty" image, and let the entire world see
her for what she really is. For that's what she's always wanted....not to
be seen as "Sporty", just simply Melanie Jayne Chisholm.
