Oct 4/99 - The Guvernment in Toronto


Last night was awesome.

oh man so much 2 say, where to begin...


well its now id estimate 7:30 or so & still no show. & theres this annoying
bright light coming from the catwalk. & there it is. this spikey silhouette
glides by the windows. of course that causes an eruption from the crowd when
they see it. the shadow waves back. the door opens out comes melanie. shes
on the outside 4 a bit then she goes back behind the curtains. well at least
melanie is here, finally arrived (ohh that means no practise 4 her 2nite
eh...) well crowd starts a few chants up but basically its back 2 waiting.
ive been standing 4 like 3 hours already but im still excited :)

band comes out & crowd erupts. & this is kinda weird but... then melanie comes
out. im looking right at her, shes a mere couple of feet away, & its not
registering in my mind. i dont know how 2 describe it. shock maybe. she is
right there. but i dont really think its her. once i did realize it was like
oh this is so f---ing wicked. new meaning 2 the term in your face :)
this is like the first time ive ever actually seen her. like really seen her,
not on tv or from looking through window of a tv station or through a crowd of
people. melanie is just there.
Oh yeah, nother major advantage. Im stunned how much bigger i am then most of
them. hehe. Like obv im bigger than the kids rite, but im bigger than the peops
my age also. 


Somethings Going To Happen & Independance Day:
Well the first two songs are both cool :) Plus Melanie looks at me kinda
strangely. at first i didnt know why either, but i realized after a bit. im
the *only* one thats actually singing along (cuz noone else knows that words.
haha) so now mel has at least seen me! crowds very upbeat for the beginning cuz
everyone is glad melanie is finally here. early on she sets the tone, she
really is a magnificent performer... words cannot describe actually seeing her
up there.... When she takes a drink of water she then just lets it go. we mock
her about it & she sticks her tongue out at us :)


Ga Ga:
Mel says hi & talks a bit. The launches into gaga. Everyone knows this song so
its *alot* louder (which makes mel happier i think :) Mel does her kiss
impression also, i beleive it was in here


Suddenly Monday, I Turn To You, Feel The Sun, If That Were Me:
This is kinda the lowest point of the night. a couple songs noone (incl yours
truly) has ever even heard of.  One of the tracks (i beleive its feel the sun)
is quite bad. im sorry, but i dont like it. & one of her songs (if that were
me?) sounds more like goa than anything. (which is cool, i like goa, but she
said "dance" & theres a big dif between those 2 music styles. well here anyways
:)  This time Mel takes a big gulp of water, turns around & spits it at us!
haha she rem last time :) well i can say mel c spit on me (which btw is also
an indication of just how close we actually are. no 30 feet barriers like at
wembly stadium)  She tries 2 keep crowd in it, but some songs i just cant get
the rhythm to...


Goin Down & Wannabe:
Another main highpoint of nite. Goin Down of course got major noise (along
with a bunch of peop jumping all around :) & Wannabe was funny (she sings it
almost in fastforward. hehe. plsu she totally plays off the crowd :)  Mel
shares her water by spitting on other side of stage this time (not as big as
our end though, i think we have a special place in that jokers heart :) Yup,
after spits turns around & whips (throws hard) the half bottle of water at us
(hehe)


I Wonder What & Go:
Really cool catchy song (u hav all heard this one also) & Mel says bye &
leaves stage. Yeah rite :) Crowd chants Melanie for a few more minutes


Closer & Goin Down:
Mel comes back & they play the remaining tracks accoustic (good chance 2 here
her voice :) kinda slow but thats 2 be expected


and thats about it. after the show she said her goodbyes & was off (i act was a
bit upset how fast she did leave, but i think its cuz she was already late 2
visit her family relatives). oh well

i cant describe just how cool she actually was up there. she totally played off
the crowd (major differance. if youve ever seen the group, u know they play 4
the cameras. the crowd is usually an afterthought (theyll wave once in a while,
but its all total routine, if u see enough concerts they all look the same).
Mel was alot more interactive than ive ever seen even when in the group

really cool this, mel spent *alot* more time on my side of the stage :) hehe.
we were prob louder (or perhaps its just cuz of me (lol)


oh yeah i knew i was forgetting something DOH

Melanie wore a red shirt with Canada written on front, a pair of jeans & a
brand new grey pair of nikes (they were new. cuz they were all shiney. hehe)

all in all it was so awesome & to think shes already said shes coming back (feb
or later) better beleive ill go again
